Elijah Ikaia was almost a week overdue, but came into the world quickly and with a force! I awoke around 4 on October 2 feeling some mellow surges around 10-15 minutes apart. I slept for another hour or so then called the midwives around 6 to tell them it was time, but not to rush. I sat in the recliner and quietly rocked back and forth while my other kids slept. Then out of nowhere, my contractions became so intense I could hardly catch my breath between them. I found myself on the bathroom loor on my hands and knees. By the time my midwives arrived we had just enough time to fill up the tub. Not long after entering, my ontractions came with the uncontrollable urge to bear down. I felt my baby’s head emerging, with the caul. With the next wave I was both humbled and elated to pull from the water a big, healthy boy, just after 7am. We are all spending some time recovering and getting to know each other. I might be a little late on answering inquiries for a while, but I’ll try to get to them as soon as I can!
